Operating Theatre
Our state of the art operating theatre forms an integral part of our clinic and allows a full range of surgical procedures to be carried out on site without the need to travel your horse long distances. These include Colic Surgery and Orthopaedic Surgery. We carry out over 200 procedures under general anaesthesia each year and so have the experience and facilities to ensure that the procedure is as safe as possible for your horse.

We have a fully equipped operating theatre with the latest monitoring and safety equipment along with padded induction and recovery boxes all designed to minimise the risk of the anaesthetic to your horse.

This horse has just been anaesthetised in the padded induction box and an endotracheal tube is being placed in his trachea to allow adminiatration of oxygen/anaesthetic gases.

Once asleep the horse is moved into theatre and gently lowered onto the padded operating table.

During the anaesthetic the both the ECG and blood pressure of the horse are measured. This is important to avoid problems such as myopathy (muscle damage) after recovery. This is also helped by our purpose built padded operating table which enables the horse to be positioned either on its back or side depending on the procedure. The height and angle of the table are electrically adjustable to allow easy access wherever the surgical site.
