HIGH QUALITY VETINARY SERVICES FOR ALL TYPES OF HORSES

ABOUT US

Western Counties Equine Clinic was formed in April 2000 by merging the practices of two well established and respected equine veterinary surgeons, Brian Crawford in North Devon and Andrew Walker in Taunton. While both have now retired from the practice the ethos of providing a high quality, caring and conscientious service remains.

"We have a highly specialised facility for the provision of diagnostic, surgical, hospitalisation and rehabilitation services"

Our purpose built hospital, opened in November 2002, nestles on the edge of the Blackdown Hills in a peaceful , tranquil environment yet is easily accessible being only 10 minutes drive from Junctions 26 and 27 of the M5. location map. It is a facility second to none in the Westcountry and since opening we have invested in a continued program of development and improvements. This culminated in October 2009 with the award of RCVS Equine Hospital status, the highest level of accreditation available, reflecting the high level of veterinary expertise, nursing care and facilities available.

The hospital provides the facilities for the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of medical and surgical disorders from hard and soft lunging areas for lameness diagnosis to the on site laboratory for rapid investigation of medical conditions. It also houses examination rooms, the digital X-ray and ultrasound units and of course the state of the art, purpose built operating theatre with padded induction and recovery boxes.

Seven equine vets with a range of complementary interests work within the practice and in addition visits from some of the professions most eminent surgeons eliminate the need for horses and owners to travel long distances for specialist treatment. The practice offers ambulatory cover for much of Devon and Somerset co-ordinated from the clinic at Culmstock and aims to become a centre of excellence for equine veterinary care in the South West.
