Ben Pearson Equine Groom
Ben is our equine groom and started at Western Counties in November 2017 taking care of our resident inpatients in the barn, along with looking after the outside hospital estate. In addition to the hospital he helps out on a number of other horse yards and farms, having previously worked on a local Arabian stud. Having grown up on farms in Berkshire and the Lake District, Ben enjoyed a fifteen year career in Reading and London as a writer in the education and healthcare sectors, before making a return to the countryside and moving to Devon in late 2015. Ben is passionate about music and cinema and can be found regularly at concerts and festivals. He also enjoys the great outdoors - particlarly long distance walking and climbing mountains
Our purpose built hospital, opened in November 2002, nestles on the edge of the Blackdown Hills in a peaceful, tranquil environment yet is easily accessible being only 10 minutes drive from Junctions 26 and 27 of the M5. Servicing the counties of Devon and Somerset, it is a facility second to none in the Westcountry and since opening we have invested in a continued program of development and improvements. This culminated in October 2009 with the award of RCVS Equine Hospital status, the highest level of accreditation available, reflecting the high level of veterinary expertise, nursing care and facilities available.
