Chris Johannson - Clinical Director BVMS CertEP MRCVS
Chris qualified from Glasgow University in 1992 and worked in several predominantly equine practices before joining Western Counties when it was formed in 2000. He holds the RCVS Certificate in Equine Practice.
Chris focuses on racing, sports horse performance and breeding as well as pre-purchase examinations. In addition he is part of the emergency surgical team at the hospital as well as seeing referral dental cases.
Chris is also a member of the Association of Racecourse Veterinary Surgeons providing veterinary cover at Exeter and Newton Abbot Racecourses, is an FEI permitted treating veterinary surgeon and an OV for Export of Horses.
Outside of work much of his time is spent supporting the training and competing of sports horses based at home as well as enjoying walking the South West Coastal Path when possible

Our purpose built hospital, opened in November 2002, nestles on the edge of the Blackdown Hills in a peaceful, tranquil environment yet is easily accessible being only 10 minutes drive from Junctions 26 and 27 of the M5. Servicing the counties of Devon and Somerset, it is a facility second to none in the Westcountry and since opening we have invested in a continued program of development and improvements. This culminated in October 2009 with the award of RCVS Equine Hospital status, the highest level of accreditation available, reflecting the high level of veterinary expertise, nursing care and facilities available.
