RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Equine Practice

Chris Johannson

Chris qualified from Glasgow University in 1992 and worked in several predominantly equine practices before joining Western Counties when it was formed in 2000. He holds the RCVS Certificate in Equine Practice, was one of the first vets to pass he BEVA/BVDA equine dentistry examination. Other areas of interest include racing and competition horses, surgery and diagnostics. Chris is also a member of the Association of Racecourse Veterinary Surgeons and is an FEI permitted treating Veterinary Surgeon. He has been elected to the Council of the British Equestrian Veterinary Association and sits on the Equestrian Sport Committee and Allied Professional Committee. When time permits he is keen to support his daughters at BE and BD competitions.

Tom Chatfeild-Roberts - Associate

BVetMed(Hons) MRCVS

Tom Chatfeild-Roberts

Tom qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 2017. He has seen practice as a student here at Western Counties on numerous occasions as well as completing externships at equine referral hospitals in Newmarket, Leicestershire, Kent and Yorkshire. He has particular interests in equine anaesthesia and surgery, working as part of the hospital and ambulatory vet teams

Tom has been involved with horses from an early age coming from a Leicestershire hunting family. He has developed a keen interest in racing, having worked in both flat and jump racing yards. He has point to pointed for the last six seasons riding over 20 winners and he hopes to continue point to pointing both in Devon and Leicestershire over the coming seasons

Simon Joyner - Director

RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Equine Surgery Orthopaedics

Simon Joyner

Simon qualified from Cambridge University in 1999 and worked in a mixed practice in Northamptonshire where he was involved in setting up an equine unit before moving to Devon and joining Western Counties in March 2003. Simon became a partner in 2004 following the retirement of Brian Crawford. He is largely based in North Devon and Exmoor. He holds the RCVS Certificate in Equine Orthopaedic Surgery. His particular areas of interest include lameness diagnosis, orthopaedic surgery, stud work and AI.

Outside work Simon enjoys sailing and surfing as well as supporting the family who are competing thier ponies in Pony Club, BE and BS.

David Seymour - Associate


David Seymour

David joined the vet team in June. He graduated from the Royal (Dick) Veterinary College in 2014. Having spent time seeing practice during his degree in Newmarket he went on to complete a six monthambulatory internship. From there he worked at an equine practice in Cornwall before joining us this summer.

David's main interests are lameness, advanced dentistry and surgery.

Outside of work David enjoys shooting, sailing and surfing. Although no longer playing rugby he remains an avid spectator.

Hayley Parker - Associate


Hayley Parker

Hayley qualified from Cambridge University in 2013 and subsequently spent the Summer working at a racehorse hospital in South Africa and then as a volunteer vet at The Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust. Before joining Western Counties at the end of 2014, she completed a 12 month equine internship at a referral hospital in Leicestershire. Hayley enjoys all areas of equine work, particularly anaesthesia and medicine cases

Hayley works as part of the ambulatory vet team covering the Somerset area as well as being part of the Hospital team.

Outside of work she enjoys skiing, running and watersports. She used to play polo at university and this year is looking forward to competing her own event horse.

Nicolas Moulin - Veterinary Surgeon


Nicolas Moulin

Nicolas has joined the Hospital veterinary team here at Western Counties having finished a resident post at the Ecole Nationale Veterinaire de Lyon in France. He has particular interests in equine surgery and lameness diagnosis.

He has recently settled in Wellington and is getting to know the local area

Eefje von Berg - Associate


Eefje von Berg

Eefje joined the practice in mid February 2017 having qualified at the University of Ghent in Belgium. She has worked in equine practice in Holland and more recently East Yorkshire. She has particular interests in equine medicine and anaesthesia.

Outside of work Eefje enjoys outdoor sports including riding, surfing, tennis and skiing as well as cooking - when time allows
